The companion to the show

The Saddle
Journal.

Useful context. Better questions.
A place to look a little closer.

Field notes / 001

Before you say yes
to a horse.

The excitement comes easily. A clear conversation about suitability, care, responsibility and costs takes more work. Use these questions to start that conversation.

Keep the answers specific to the horse and the arrangement you’re considering. Ask the relevant professional when specialist judgement is needed.

  • Is this horse suited to my experience and intended role?
  • Who knows its history, routine and individual needs?
  • What qualified support and appropriate checks do we need?
  • What is the plan if the horse’s circumstances change?
